Barbados Soca music meets Spanish Flamenco for a bit of partying and Historic Rally fun!

Historic rallying around the world is growing at a tremendous rate and in several different directions.

Historic endurance events, regularity tours, closed-road special stage rallies and demonstration runs not only all exist in the same bulging annual Historic rally calendar but often co-exist on the same event!

And there is much more to come.

Since 2001 the Barbados Rally Carnival has teamed up with various rallies in UK and Europe to share event promotion through the exchange of entry prizes, competitor participation and personal social interaction. Over the years great friends have been made on events such as the Cork 20, Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, Killarney Historic Rally, Rallye Classico Mallorca and others.

In 2018, the Barbados Historic Rally Carnival is teaming up with Rallye Festival Trasmiera, a Historic demonstration event held around the village of Hoznayo in the Cantabria region of Northern Spain in mid-May each year. In 2018 crews who make the final Trasmiera entry list will receive a 10% discount on entries to the 2018 Barbados Historic Rally Carnival.

Stages in this part of Cantabria were used on the ERC Firestone Rally in the 1970s, which was the first international win for the Lancia Stratos with Munari and Mannucci in 1973. This rally was also a round of the Spanish Historic Rally Championship in 2011 and 2012.

Since 2013 Rallye Festival Trasmiera has been run as a Historic Demonstration event which has been extremely popular with drivers as well as spectators. 200 Km of tarmac special stages will be run from Thursday, May 10th to Saturday, May 12th, 2018, including night stages and less than 100 Km of transits around centralised service. It is the first round of Reinhard Klein's Slowly Sideways 2018 European Series, which also includes Eifel Rallye Festival, Vosges Rallye Festival and Austrian Rallye Legends.

Barbados Historic Rally Carnival organiser Greg Cozier had this to say: "I'm not sure our Barbados motorsport social culture could be described as anything other than 'manic Caribbean' or compared to any other place in the world but the Irish and Spaniards certainly know how to throw a serious party and not take themselves too seriously.

I've had a fantastic time on Rallye Classico Mallorca in 2016 and 2017 and looking forward tremendously to experiencing Rallye Festival Trasmiera's famous social atmosphere. Maybe manage a few 'beef & potatoes' (recent Bajan slang for rally drifts) in the RS1600 as well. I'm sure a few Rallye Trasmiera crews would like to bring their Historic rally cars on a Barbados holiday in November so I expect I'll be busy explaining to crews there how the Carnival works over a few beers. Rallye Trasmiera gets nearly 300 entries for only 165 starting places so we're very privileged and excited to be included in the 2018 starters' list".

Rallye Festival Trasmiera organiser Andres Bueno Arroyo is one of the five dedicated rally enthusiasts who organises this event and works very closely with the local community as well as charities to make everyone feel welcome. The event is organised with crew and spectator enjoyment as a priority. Over sixty crews from the UK and various European countries will join 100 Spanish crews in Hoznayo next May so Andres and his organising team must be doing something right.

"We've never had an entry on this event from the Caribbean, or anywhere else in the New World either!" reported Andres, "The Barbados Rally Carnival certainly has a great reputation for being a crazy event that everyone wants to do, so this exchange will be a good thing for all of us by showing Spanish and European competitors how easy it is to put their cars on a transporter and get them to UK and across the ocean to Barbados, especially with the good deals we get on ferries from Spain to UK. I'm looking forward to the Rum Punch in Barbados next November!" .

The 2018 Barbados Historic Rally Carnival will run from November 15th to 27th, 2018 and will include a sealed-surface RallySprint event the first weekend and a day/night tarmac special-stage rally the second weekend, with numerous parties and other social events in-between.

The Barbados Historic Rally Carnival entry package includes: Ocean-freight for one Rally Car packed with spares from Portsmouth, UK to Barbados and back, RallySprint entry fees, Historic Rally entry fees, competition insurance, entry to all social events for US$4,900 (approximately €4,200; discounted 10% for competitors who are on the 2018 Rallye Festival Tresmiera final entry list)
